Back and Bad

UnknownSpring Break is over and the deliciousness of theatre is bustin’ out everywhere. My man-purse still smells like musty theaters and rubbed off program ink and unwrapped (I unwrap a lot) candies rather stuck together in one creation.

But I get back to Jacksonville and it all went bad. During the break on of my wonderful children did a something bad while off my watch and that something bad meant that he couldn’t be a part of the something good that he had been working on so hard and with such success over the past few months. Perhaps it was a something that happens in high schools around the world and high schools through the years but that doesn’t change that it was wrong here and now – and that consequences would obviously be felt.

We passed in the hall after the seperation was known and I believe he expected me to be a bit upset about the event. But oddly, and very oddly, I was not so much mad at him – as genuinely sad that he wasn’t not going to reap the reward of his hard work and genuienly sad that I was not going to be able to have a chance to work with this fine student – – that I am sure will go on to achieve wonderful things in college and the world beyond. . .

S*** happens. But why does it have to happen now – five rehearsals from the end and why happen to this play and to this student and to this cast – – and to me??? Back and bad.
