Tickle War
In the cast of Shadow Box we do have one young freshman boy who is playing the role of Steve. Admittedly it was a bit of a chore as a director to find some boy who in any way – – could possibly – – in some stretch of a squinted eye view – play the teenage son of a senior boy. Read more
Not for Sissies
This theatre thing is not for sissies. Those on the outside of the theatre often, in a most unkind and inaccurate way, have labeled theatre and all who work behind its walls as “sissies.” Well that “ain’t necessarily so.” Many students and even adults find that the greatest achievement that actors make is to learn those lines. I cannot count how many times I have heard these “outsiders” say, “How in the world did they ever memorize all of those words?” Read more
Do No Harm
I was enlightened today in rehearsing a scene with both experienced high school actors and one fresh to the game of high school acting. I was so focused on getting my seniors to step down from all of their worry, pushing, and self-focus. These seniors were busting their butt to rise to some imaginary standard in their brain. Hanging on a Costumed Thread
He comes into rehearsals hanging by a costumed thread! I notice every year that there comes a time in the senior year when the talented, passionate seniors enter the maelstrom of being a part of every single project – holding up every single production – and needing to realize their last “high school report card” as the best it can be.
