Greasing the Wheels

Years and years ago I earned my MFA in Playwriting from Pennsylvania State University.  It was a wonderful experience that had me up and writing almost 10 pages a day – a feat I can only imagine today.  I am thinking I may go back to this practice – although I’ll be lucky to knock out 3 pages a day.  All the retirement books that I have over-read this past month encourage us seniors to go back to where we were the most creative in our life and try to rekindle the flame.

Other than the inertia of a 62 year old man, I only see two problems with the plan.  First off I worry that I may need more distance from theatre – after all, it is all I talked about and did for years and years.  Likely time will help refresh my perspective.  Secondly, I am a bit pulled away from being with people.  This retirement, at least in the beginning and in these COVID time keeps me isolated.  I have no strange people in my world working problems that intrigue me.

I guess I will use this blog to keep greasing the wheels until the people, the conflict and the perspective all come together and move me forward.  It would be nice if it were sooner rather than later.
