On My Way to NYC

UnknownSpring Break is here and I am off to NYC for a Spring Break full of as much theatre as I can schedule. At this moment I have 5 shows all lined up and, believe me, I will be finding a few more! Often I am asked why in the world I would teach theatre each and every day and THEN use my precious vacation time to go off and see MORE theatre. My response? If you have to ask, then you just donโ€™t understand.

My kids are stationed at State Thespians for the weekend. They send me pictures and texts of their adventures and successes. In their ways, they send love and I gratefully receive and send it right back! Once we return to school in a week we have an 8 hour rehearsal to pick the play back into life – then a week of rehearsal – followed by a week of technical rehearsals – followed by 8 shows. April will be full. But – for today – it is all NYC.

Please do join me on my sister web: www.nyctheatreaddict.com I am very proud of this blog as it reaches 45,000 pages read. I love me some theatre!

Iโ€™ll be back to this blog on March 28th

It’s so refreshing to read about someone who genuinely LOVES what they do.

Your career is an expression of who you are – and this is why I’m not surprised that your students respond to you the way they do.

In the time I had spent in school, VERY few teachers seemed to want to be there. I had a class once where they changed teachers halfway throughout the year – and the contrast between the two of them was noticeable.

The former was into interacting with us and my grade reflected this. The latter was robotic and clearly didn’t care. My grade reflected this.

    Keep doing what you’re doing.

Hey, Michael! Have an awesome time enjoying your addiction! It’s like a vacation, and if people don’t “get” that, well, you’re right — explaining it to them isn’t going to do any good.

Personally, I think it’s awesome to just get to NYC and enjoy the vibes, but to be able to take in show after show after show is a dream come true! (London’s the same way for me.)

Have a GRRRREAT time and you and your kids will all be really invigorated upon your return. And I’ll definitely check out your sister blog. ๐Ÿ™‚

Great post! I love New York – and it’s one of the best places to experience different genres of theatre. It would be a crime not to see at least a few shows while you’re there.

My brother lives in New York, and he’s constantly sending me updates of all the different shows he’s off to see. He recently watched Hamilton, and highly recommended it. I watched Finding Netherland, the last time I was there, and also thought it was really good.

Unfortunately, where I live there aren’t as many shows, but when there is something playing, you’d be crazy to miss it. Actually, with that being said, the theatre industry in Perth (Australia), if definitely improving, and there are some really great ‘small’ local productions happening at some of the older theatres.

    Enjoy your break!

That sounds like a lot of fun. It’s been years since I was in New York, and at that time I didn’t have time to take in all the shows. That’s got to be one awesome way to spend a vacation.

Wow, that’s exciting!! New York. I’ve never been there, but I sure wish I could go. I love big cities. They each have a different flavor. In New York, the flavor of the week is a different show every week.

I hope you’ll leave us some words of wisdom after your trip.
